BACKGROUND / PURPOSE: The breed originated from the Mediterranean region, where it has been
spread along the Italian and Spain's coasts. It is thought that this breed came to Cuba long ago, with Italian sea captains to coaches. By mistake, the dogs have common color, Havana (color brown-red tobacco) gave birth to the legend that the race would come from the city of Havana, Cuba's capital. Event-development has led to the breed's ancient bloodlines totally disappeared in Cuba. The breed has been preserved by ras representatives occasional have been smuggled out from Cuba to USA.
General appearance:
The Havanese is a small, energetic dog. It shall be low-legged, with long,
abundant hair, soft and preferably wavy. Movement is lively and bouncy.
IMPORTANT PROPORTIONS:
The muzzle is equal to the distance between the stop and the occiput. The ratio of height at withers to
body length (measured from shoulder / point of shoulder to the buttocks) should be 3:4.
BEHAVIOUR / CHARACTER: The breed is very attentive, making it easy to train it to be vigilant. The way
is bichon Havanese affectionate and naturally cheerful, friendly, charming, hilarious and something of a clown. Havanese
enjoys children and can play tirelessly with them.
HEAD
Medium. The relationship between the length of the head and the distance withers / base of tail shall be 3: 7.
Skull: Broad and flat, or very slightly arched. At the front of the the skull was slightly elevated. Seen from above it is rounded at the back almost straight and square on the other three sides.
Stop: Moderately selected.
Nose: Black or brown.
Muzzle: Gradually tapering towards the nose but neither snipey nor truncated.
Lips: Thin, dry and austere.
Jaws / Teeth: Scissor bite. A Correct bite is desirable. Lack of PM1 and M3s tolerated.
Cheeks: Very flat, not prominent. Eyes: The eyes are rather large, almond-shaped and as dark brown as possible. Kind expression.
Eyelids are dark brown or black.
Ears: Set relatively high, they fall along the cheeks forming a
discreet fold which raises them slightly. Ear Lapps bottoms must be slightly pointed. They are covered with hair in long fringes. Ears neither worn as windmill, nor stuck to the cheeks.
NECK:
Of medium.
BODY
The body is slightly greater than height at withers.
Back: Topline straight.
Loin: Loin slightly arched. Croup: be clearly slanted.
Chest: Ribs should be well sprung.
Underline: Well tucked up.Tail: Carried upturned and either take the form of a crosier, or, which is most preferably rolled over the back. It shall be provided with a feathering of long silky hair.
LIMBS PREPARE:
Forelegs straight and parallel. They should be dry with good bone. The distance between the ground and the elbow is not greater than the distance between the elbow and the Withers.
Feet: The feet should be slightly elongated in shape. They should be small and compact. HINDQUARTERS: have good bone. The angle must be moderate.
Hind feet: As the forefeet.
MOVEMENT: The Havanese is light and springy movements that are quite striking and emphasizing race merry temperament. Movement should be free and parallel
FUR: Hair: Undercoat woolly be was little developed. Often totally absent. Topcoat is very long (12-18 cm in an adult dog), soft, flat or wavy. It may form curly strands. All grooming or clipping to smooth the hair length, or trimming of any kind is prohibited. Exception: trimming of fur on the paws are allowed. Likewise allowed some truncation of the fur on his forehead, so that no eyes are covered, and the fur on the nose portion may also be trimmed in a corresponding manner.Coat color: Rarely completely pure white, fawn in all its different shades (slight blackened overlay admitted), black, havana-brown, tobacco color, reddish-brown. Height: From 23 to 27 cm. Permitted deviation: 21 to 29 cm.
FAULTS: Any departure from the standard is wrong and must
be assessed in relation to its degree.
SERIOUS FAULTS:
-Lack of type in the overall impression.
-Contrary Truncated or pinched nose portion; nose portion whose length is not the same as the portion.
-Raptor Eye; too deep set or protruding eyes; poorly pigmented eyelids.
-Too short or too long body.
-Fransyskt covered foreleg.
-Deformed paws
-Straight tail, tail, not carried high curved Rough coat: not enough rich fur; short coat
- except on puppies; groomed coat.
ELIMINATING FAULTS:
-Over-or undershot
-Poor pigmented nose
-Ectropion or entropion; Lack of pigment eyelids
-Height is greater than or less than that specified in the standard.
NB:
Male animals should have two testicles were fully developed and normally located in the scrotum.
